Hot Date

Last night this hot babe took me out on a hot date! We went and saw the newest Harry Potter Movie. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1. It was pretty good, it's just the first half of (I think) the last book.
I was looking for a picture to post and discovered that you can get the book with a 'Less Childish looking' adult cover. I didn't consider the movie to be for children, there's scary parts, like a big snake, and lots of big-time ugly monsters.
Tonight's another hot date night, hot dogs on the grill!

Yellow Bird

We have two bowls of water for birds. We get a lot of birds throughout the day, mostly teeny tiny ones, but a few pretty big ones. There was one in particular, that was almost pure yellow. He or she would come when I didn't have my camera. Well, yesterday I got the shot! This bird is barely bigger than your thumb!

Underwater Wreck

At a very popular snorkel spot called Cemetary Beach on Seven Mile Beach, there evidently was a large boat wreck a long time ago. These are pics of stuff on the bottom there.
Click pics to enlarge
A gearshaft in the lower center, and a big wheel in the upper left. Boat engine parts.
I don't know what this is, a piston rod from a really big piston? My Navy ship had a big wrench bolted to the side on the outside, used in the drydock to take the propellers off. This doesn't look like a wrench though.
A V-6 Engine block (This probably was dumped on purpose as somebody's mooring anchor)

Sleepy Saturday

I have said a million times on this blog, I am a poor sleeper. Last night was a big one. I woke up at midnight, and it was almost Four AM before I lost track of time again. Maybe I'm not a poor sleeper, maybe I just don't need much sleep.
Today The Wife is going to a flea market with the sis in law and her Mom, and I am going to study and mow the lawn.
That's the plan now, plans change, I offer no warranty or guarantee that I will mow or study or either.

Friday

It's Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. I think it's a big shopping day in the US. Some of my Facebook friends are getting up at about 4AM to go shopping.
I have an amp to repair today, Hopefully I can fix it. Should be simple enough, one speaker doesn't work. Parts availability is the question. Hopefully I'll find a broken wire and won't need parts.
Dinner last night was pretty good. I rekkon there were a hundred people there. It was outdoors at some condos on Seven Mile Beach. I came home pretty full, and went to bed about 9:30, woke up at midnight till 2 and then back to sleep till 6 or so.

Now I'm getting coffeed up.

Have a good weekend.

American Thanksgiving

Today is American Thanksgiving. From a big feast the Indians and Pilgrims had. In the USA. Tonight my friend, who is also American, is having a big Thanksgiving dinner and that's where we'll be.
In Canada Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday in October. Canadians give thanks for a successful harvest. The origins and reasons for American Thanksgiving are disputed, but I remember in grade school, learning that the Pilgrims didn't bring any plows, shovels or building or farming equipment, and the Indians helped them and taught them how to survive. That being said, I always wondered why Thanksgiving wasn't in the spring, after you've survived the winter, instead of November, when the worst weather is yet to come.

Other countries that celebrate Thanksgiving are:

The Netherlands.
Grenada
Liberia
Norfolk Island (Australian Territory)

It's a good idea for me to be Thankful, and pick out the good things in my life. I have a really good life, but I tend to focus on the problems, not on what is good. I believe life is about continuous problem solving, but one should never focus entirely on the problems or forget the good things.

New Blog to check out

My Wife started a new blog: A Photo A Day. Click the pic to check it out. Don't worry, she's still keeping her original blog too.
Click the pic to be magically transported to my Wife's new blog!
(But then come back to read the rest of my post)
Sols New Blog
I started this blog because I didn't know what blogs were, and I needed to start an account to view them, or so I thought. SO when they asked for a title, I put "First Time", because I thought my first blog would be a temporary, experimental blog, and when I got it figured out, I'd start a REAL blog. Now it's been over five years, and I guess I haven't got it figured out yet, because here I am. Still, someday maybe I'll start a REAL Blog!

Last night we had the Bro and Sis in law, her Mom, and his friend over for dinner. It was real nice. We bought a whole tenderloin and I cooked it on the grill. I've come to the conclusion that my meat thermometer is about 20 degrees off, because it was saying medium, and the beef was still pretty rare. Other than having to take everything and put it back on the grill, the evening was perfect.

I had a cool dream last night. I was driving a marble through a well lit modern city. I say I was driving a marble, because I was on top of this rolling thing, my feet sticking out in front of me, and I don't know how I was steering or anything. Kind of like sitting up in a dentists chair. I was looking for Viking Drive. I know I was close, because I recognized everything, (in the dream, not as a real place). I asked this couple in an office. (I think the guy was my new boss, who I just met, and the woman was Miss Jillian, my friends wife) They were very vague. Finally I asked Miss Jillian, very specifically, "If I go up the road to the main street, do I turn left or right to get to Viking Drive?" And she looked at me like she didn't understand the question or wouldn't tell me.
Also, it was like I needed stronger glasses, because I couldn't read any street signs, although all the city lights and everything else seemed very clear. That's why I couldn't find Viking Drive by myself.
It was a nice dream, it was fun driving the "vehicle", the city was very cool, and the colors and lights were very vivid.

A movie called RED

We rented this DVD and I watched it twice. (The Wife watched parts of it twice). It is a great movie about a bunch of retired spies who get put on a hit list so they have to fight back.
RED stands for Retired, Extremely Dangerous. It is a good mix of action and comedy, with a decent plot. I recommend it for you to watch.

Sunday Dive photos

A few photos from yesterday. America Airlines lost my underwater camera, so I'm using my ancient 2.1 megapixel camera. It's the very same underwater camera Adam and Eve had in the Garden of Eden.

Going Diving

We're up early, we're going diving at East End.
We haven't been in a long time. Like two months.
I haven't had my rebreather in the water since May. We're diving open circuit again today.
I haven't been out in my Kayak in forever either.
Actually my Wife set up the trip with a friend of hers from Costa Rica. I'm not sure I feel like going. I am in a VILE mood.

Mr Outta Control.

This is another day where I can't think of anything to post about. It's Friday, which is good. Today I have to go get the car inspected and licensed. It expired at the end of October. That's right, I'm a felony criminal driver of the car two weeks after the plates expired. You thought I was Mr. Goodie Two Shoes and I'm really Mr Outta Control. I went yesterday to get it done, but they don't do inspections when it's raining. Can ya believe that? Welcome to the Caribbean!.

I just got up, showered, made coffee, walked the dawgs, got coffee, and sat down at the computer.

Last night was an event at my Wifes work. It was pretty nice. She'll probably post about it, and you can read it there.

If you have a mobile phone, you can probably get this program called Qik. It lets you record video with your phones camera, and upload it straight to the internet.

Sorry for the lame post today.

Unprepared 4 A Post

I don't have anything prepared for a post today, so I'm going to post pics of Poor poor Sheba. Poor poor Sheba doesn't have any ribs! Go ahead! Give her a squeeze, you can't feel a single rib on her!
Sheba on the back porch, listening to figure out what you're talking about.
The only dawg who lays down to eat
By the way, all we give her to eat are tennis balls. You can tell by the look on her face they don't taste very good. Poor poor Sheba!
Here, Sheba is being attacked by a rubber spring. It looks like the spring is winning, but Sheba made it through this encounter unscathed.

Headache Categories

This is a categorization of headaches. I think there's about 4 basic types. There are probably more.

Type 1, where it feels like a large nail had been driven into my skull. Usually it feels like someone pounded it in the top of my head, off center on one side or the other or both.

Type 2, Where it hurts in the lower back of the skull, and somehow reaches around and makes it feel like all my teeth hurt too. I associate this type of headache with grinding my teeth in my sleep.

Type 3, It feels like someone has sawed off the top of my skull, about an inch above the eyes, all the way around and it is just sitting there, like a hat. It feels like any sudden movement will make the top of my head fall off.

Type 4, Sinus headache. This is behind and below the eyes. Usually a dull ache, but sometimes it feels like the eyeballs may pop out with any sudden movement.

And that's my list, as discussed with the Wife last night. There are more, I'm sure. For example, a migraine, I don't know what that is, but people describe them as the Mother of all headaches.

I'm lucky, I Don't get headaches too often. Once or twice a month at the most. Feel free to add any types of headaches that I have missed.

Mighty Shirts

I notice a phenomenon where I tend to get stuck wearing the same few T-Shirts over and over. I keep my T-Shirts in a drawer, and when I wear one, I just grab it from the top. Then my worn dirty T-Shirts get thrown in the laundry, and eventually back in my T-Shirt drawer, on top, where the odds of them getting worn again are much higher than a T-Shirt on the bottom of my drawer. At any given moment, some of mighty shirts are dir-T-Shirts.
The bottom line, and purpose of this Sunday morning post, is that every once in a while, you have to clean out your T Shirt drawer, and put the bottom ones on the top, and the top ones on the bottom. If you're like me you'll feel like you have a new wardrobe. This probably goes for your underwear drawer too.
This is a picture of a girl wearing a T Shirt (for no other reason except to match mighty shirt post). Notice she is standing in front of a bunch of porta potties. The implication is that if she were smarter she would probably realize that porta potties do not make a good background for a portrait. Plus her boobs are pretty big, and if her boobs were brains, she would have a lot of brains and therefore be very very smart. And of course, she realizes all this, because she's wearing the shirt in the first place.
I, for one, am glad her boobs are boobs and not brains, I like boobs, I could post a whole post about boobs, and you can tell I don't have any brains.

What a night last night

Last night The Wife and I went to the Pirates Week street party. (The landing is today). Since the streets were all blocked off, and traffic is very heavy, we took my scooter. We went downtown, saw the fireworks and had a great time.
On the way home, we had a flat tire on the scooter while blasting down the road. Lucky we didn't crash. I ended up locking the bike to a pole and we took a cab home. Then we took the car back to see the bike and try to fix the tire.
So this morning I have to try to get it all sorted out.

Pirates Week Weekend

It's Friday! Pirates Week! I'm in the landing! After 13 years of working every Pirates Week with the radio station, I get to go to one and not be working! I'm in the landing.

Let me tell ya how it works.

In a nutshell:

Pirates come ashore, and capture the Governor and take over the island. Then, they have a parade and big party. Then, all week, they go from district to district, they have a Heritage Day in each different district, and you wear a pirates uniform. Then that night they have a street (or beach) party there too. Then the next day, it moves to another district.

Then the next weekend, the Caymanians finally repel the pirates, and and have another big party, then things get back to normal.

This is secret! Don't tell anybody! I am a Redcoat Pirate! I'm dressed as a Redcoat, supposed to protect the Governor. But when the Pirates attack, I shed my Red Coat, and I am a pirate underneath! It's all part of the plan! Here's me trying on my Redcoat uniform. Don't tell anyone I'm really a Pirate!

New Post, new coffee pot

Yesterday we got a new coffee pot. Right now I am drinking my first cuppa coffee from it. The old coffee pot worked ok, but it seemed like we couldn't get a decent pot of coffee out of it. It had this water filter in the back inside that you couldn't get a replacement for, and maybe that was why it didn't make good coffee. If you took the filter out, the cup marker lines on the side were way off. We cleaned it and tried everything. Switching coffee brands, making it weaker and stronger. No matter what we did, we couldn't get a decent pot.

One worthless feature all coffee makers seem to have is a little valve, so that you can take a cup of coffee before it has finished brewing. I think this ruins the whole pot, because the end coffee is weaker than the coffee brewed first, and the contents of the pot have to mix. NO CHEATING!

Food Allergy, or Extreme Aggressiveness

I think I am allergic to food, whenever I eat a big meal, I get really tired. Or, like the Lion, who gorges himself than sleeps, maybe I get tired after dining because of my excessive aggressiveness, the extreme predator in me... Yeah, now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure it's the hunter-killer/dominant male in me that makes me pass out after dinner, like the King Of Beasts!
We went out to dinner last night at Tim Buk Tuu, and when I got home I was tooo sleepy. So I went to bed - at 7:30 PM... (the Wife said WTF?) And now it's a little after 3AM and here I am! Wide awake.
C'est la vie

Mike Did It!

My Blogger buddy, Schmikey, who came to Cayman for a visit in 2009, graduated college this month. His wife emailed me and asked me (and a whole bunch of his friends) to take pics of ourselves holding a sign that says "You Did It!"
She put together this video for him, which is really cool.

Below is a pic from Mikes Visit in Jan, 2009
Look in the video at how big the baby is now!

Here is a link to the post from when they visited in Jan 2009.

Sunday Post Two

I posted a joke here earlier this morning, but I didn't like it, so I took it off.
Today is very cloudy, (right now, but that could change quickly) and still very windy. Last night I woke up in the middle of the night, stayed up for a few hours, then went back to bed.
This morning I got awakened by the dawgs who had to go outside. Then Sheba, who a few minutes ago had to pee so bad she was crying, still makes a fuss and spends a half hour finding the perfect spot. Meanwhile, I didn't pee before taking them out, thinking they were dying to go from the ruckus they were making, so I'm there whining to Sheba to hurry up.
Seems oddly fitting, now that I think about it.

Hurricane Diverter

Here it's quite windy. We have a Nor' Wester. The wind is from the North.
This is not Hurricane Tomas, this is what made Tomas take it's drastic curve away from us.
I went to bed last night at 8:30. Now I've been awake since 2:20.

Audio Post Experiment

I'm trying to get this to work.
Please listen, it's a minute and ten seconds.

Monday, November 01, 2010

I've known this for at least the last 35 years.

I have known this for as long as I can remember, Alcohol and tobacco, the two legal drugs, are by far the most damaging. No other drug except alcohol can get you to a point that you don't even know what you're doing. And I've always said that the hangover is caused by the 'dirt' alcohol leaves behind. No other drug (except PCP) gives you any type of hangover.

Alcohol more harmful than heroin & crack cocaine: Study Says

Presenting a new scale of drug harm that rates the damage to users themselves and to wider society, the scientists rated alcohol the most harmful overall and almost three times as harmful as cocaine or tobacco.

According to the scale, devised by a group of scientists including Britain's Independent Scientific Committee on Drugs (ISCD) and an expert adviser to the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA), heroin and crack cocaine rank as the second and third most harmful drugs.

Professor David Nutt, chairman of the ISCD, whose work was published in the Lancet medical journal, said the findings showed that "aggressively targeting alcohol harms is a valid and necessary public health strategy". He said they also showed that current drug classification systems had little relation to the evidence of harm.

Nutt was forced to quit the ACMD a year ago after publicly criticising ministers for ignoring scientific advice suggesting cannabis was less harmful than alcohol.

The World Health Organisation estimates that risks linked to alcohol cause 2.5 million deaths a year from heart and liver disease, road accidents, suicides and cancer -- accounting for 3.8 percent of all deaths.

It is the third leading risk factor for premature death and disabilities worldwide.

Among some of the other drugs assessed were crystal meth (33), cocaine (27), tobacco (26), amphetamine or speed (23), cannabis (20), benzodiazepines, such as Valium (15), ketamine (15), methadone (14), mephedrone (13), ecstasy (9), anabolic steroids (9), LSD (7) and magic mushrooms (5).
