What're the rules here????
I have an ever-widening circle of blogs I read almost every day. I just stumbled onto them. Now, I check my blog, and look for new comments, and I check my circle of blogs too, looking for new posts, and I look for new blogs too, someone who grabs my attention, who I feel like I know what they are talking about. Sometimes I want to add comments but worry about what they may think. For example, what would you think if I was commenting on almost every post you made on your blog? I don't want you to think I comment too much or am trying to enter your life against your will. But the truth is, I relate to what you write and want to respond. So I am kind of torn a little between doing what feels OK to me and trying to imagine what you or your friends or family or a complete stranger would think if I did. I guess basically what I'm saying is, I perceive there are rules or etiquette about what is and what is not OK, but I don’t know what they are. And I sometimes worry that I may over step the boundaries. don't get me wrong, I don't fell the desire to comment on every post of every blog I read, but sometimes I wonder if I may be commenting too much.
On the other hand, I would be happy if you or anyone else commented on my blog as often as you want. That's why I put this stuff on the internet. I want other peoples comments, all I can get.
Once I commented on a blog and the person posted a comment on mine "WHO ARE YOU?" It seemed to me I made them angry. So I learned that just because I want a lot of comments, maybe everyone doesn't.
So what are the rules here? How do I know how much to comment? When I think I'm "really getting to know someone" on here how do I remind myself that maybe I don't? How do I know how much to trust my perception in any situation? I do not believe that my perception is always accurate, how do I avoid stepping on toes without being passive? We could all sit around and never comment at all for fear it wouldn't be proper for one reason or another, that would suck!
So what do you think??

Wowzers! ;) Thanks for honoring me to be your first link!
I think you should go ahead and do your comment dance. Comment a bit, see how it goes...and you can also ask the person if they mind your commenting or not? That's the drawback of not being able to be in touch with a person, b/c if you know their email addy or chat sn, you could ask them discreetly if it's ok with them or not..
I still say comment as you see fit while seeing how the reaction's like..? And one can always trim/edit/delete...?
I don't know?
Thank you for reading my blog, and for commenting on it. ;) I am not sure what the appropriate etiquette is (I am new to the whole blog thing too), but I personally feel that if a person does not want strangers reading or commenting on their blog, then they need to make it private. You CAN do that, you know.....
I'm new at this blogging lark, and haven't got a clue what is acceptable! I am getting a little braver at leaving comments (see, I'm posting this!), but I wish there was a blog etiquette page to refer to.
Very much like this entry, 'coz if you hadn't of posted it, I wouldn't have dared respond ;o)
I began blogging as an exercise to keep writing on a daily basis. I never expected anyone to actually read it and was surprised when someone did (I see you down there K - LOL)
I do not expect people to comment on every post I write but I have to admit, the comments keep me writing.
There are blogs I read because I find them interesting and learn from them yet I do not leave a comment because I do not know anything about the subject the blog focuses on.
I agree with K. If someone does not want comments left on their blog, they can make it private. I figure if the comment option is available then the author is open to comments.
Mark, you left a comment on my blog and I was ecstatic so I don't think too many people will mind if you leave comments on their blogs. Your comments are well written and are pleasant to read. I look forward to checking my blog every day to see if someone else has left me a note. Like Lita said, it keeps me writing. Thanks!!!
