Coffee shortage

I meant to buy coffee this morning for my work coffee pot. I went to the store and forgot the coffee.

I'm going to survive though, I may have to go out for some.

The new do was pretty good last night. Except for eating my orchids and a couple more potted plants. And getting in the garbage. She wants attention, and attention she got. I played a little reverse psychology on her. She was hounding me, constantly wanting me to pet her. Finally I did, and when she got up to wander away, I called her back, layed her down and petted her some more. She got pretty relaxed under my chair. Also, after dinner I took away the water. This morning, no pee on the floor!
Also last night I gave her a bath with the hose outside, and she loved it! I mean she loved it. I can't wait to take her to the beach, I can tell she's a swimmer. Also, I think she's beginning to grasp the concept of toys vs non toys.

This morning I overslept. Like 25 minutes extra. I hit the snooze once and I was out. I was sleeping hard, while the radio played.

At least the new dog lets up sleep.

I dunno

This new dog may be more than I am willing to take on. The OI Girl says she's doing pretty good for only a being here for a couple of days.

But I don't know. I stepped in dogpee barefoot this morning.

The dog drinks a lot of water. I'm thinking of taking the water away after supper.

Wota Weekend

This weekend on Saturday, I was setting up my rebreather for a Sunday dive and I noticed my fins were missing. The OI Girls father was using them when went diving week before last. Apparently they were left at the dive site. I went looking and calling but they are gone. I loved those fins, Seaquest Accelerators. Now I'm using some Mares full foot fins I'm not crazy about. It was a good dove though.

Sunday, we were given the dog IO Girl wanted. The owners are moving to Jamaica for school for 4 years so the OI Girl has her dog. Sheeba the Girly Girl. She's the 50 lb puppy I mentioned earlier
She's part Akita and part Lab.
Pics coming.

This morning they're installing our hurricane shutters. If I can just get the leak in the roof fixed we'd be set pretty well for hurricane season.

cats and chickens

This morning I walked the dog and there was a kitten in our yard, I went and got some cat food and fed the kitten. The chickens and the cat were sharing the catfood and I wish I had my camera but I think it's at work. Although the chickens were at least twice a big as the cat, they would grab a piece of food and jump back like they thought the cat was going to eat them. The cat ignored them.
The OI Girl wants a second dog.
I don't think my Dawg would never get along with a cat.

Its FRIDAY

Finally a Friday, and they're calling for increased clouds and rain again. Dammmmmmmn. I feel like I haven't had a weekend in a long time. Clouds and rain void it out. In my opinion..

Mezza

The OI Girl's been a little cranky lately, so I took her out last night to a restaurant she's been wanting to go to. Mezza
It was nice inside and the food was good, but the service was lacking. We were laughing about it at the restaurant.
It seems like the waitstaff doesn't have assigned tables, so everybody waits on everybody. Which is another way of saying that nobody waits on anyone!
We probably won't be going back.

Oh yeah, I forgot, Yesterday, when I went to give blood, they couldn't get any out of me. They poked both arms, and found nice veins, but my veins roll and collapse, and they only got a little blood then quit after about half an hour! Ha Ha Funny Funny!

waiting

It's been very busy at work, I keep waiting for it to slow down, but it never does.
After all the rain from Dolly, before she was Dolly, our front porch door swelled and is difficult to open. I bought a plane and am trying to fix it. That's what I did yesterday afternoon.

Also I got a new dive computer, a Shearwater Pursuit. It rocks!

This morning I'm going to give blood.

A Joke For Ya

Handy-woman
A blonde, wanting to earn some extra money, decided to hire herself out as a "handy-woman" and started canvassing a nearby well-to-do neighborhood. She went to the front door of the first house, and asked the owner if he had any odd jobs for her to do.

"Well, I guess I could use somebody to paint my porch," he said, "How much will you charge me?"
The blonde quickly responded, "How about $50?" The man agreed and told her that the paint and everything she would need were in the garage.

The man's wife, hearing the conversation, said to her husband, "Does she realize that our porch goes all the way around the house?"
He responded, "That's a bit cynical, isn't it?"
The wife replied, "You're right. I guess I'm starting to believe all those 'dumb blonde' jokes we've been getting by e-mail lately."

A short time later, the blonde came to the door to collect her money.
"You're finished already?" the husband asked.
"Yes," the blonde replied, "and I had paint left over, so I gave it two coats."
Impressed, the man reached into his pocket for the $50.00 and handed it to her.

"And by the way," the blonde added, "it's not a Porch, it's a Lexus."

Mini Hurricane

We had a mini Hurricane last night, I rekkon it might still be going on.
My porch railing for damaged when a big ladder fell on it and a chair.. And a lot of my seedling potted plants seem to be just plain old gone!

I guess we won't be doing any diving this weekend!

Today is my Grandfathers birthday. Damon E. Grim was born in 1885 and died in 1976.
He was a farmer in Ohio. He had no teeth, nine fingers, big ears, rough whiskers and walked slow. He's been dead thirty two years, I think of him everyday. I miss him and try to be like him.
His dogs name was Jet.

Yesterday was the anniversary of the date I first set foot on Grand Cayman, July 17th 1996. I came here on vacation, and six months later I lived here and have been here ever since! Hope they let me stay!

Whacked by lightning

Yesterday, it was a clear and cloudless sunny day, I know, because I was out there for a while. Then I came inside and five minutes later, it was pouring rain like it can only in the Caribbean. Then I had to go back out, and I didn't have my raincoat. And we had some lightning and thunder at the same time. I was driving in our Radio Cayman Fred Flintstone Van and saw lightning hit it looked like behind our tower. And you know somethings up when the lightning and thunder occur at the same time!!!
When I got back to the station our BBC receiver and newsroom soundboard were fried.
I borrowed a board from a local soundman and was here till 9PM last night swapping it out.
I don't mind this kind of working late, it's my job. I just hate working late doing somebody else's job.
Plus my phone got wet in my pocket and quit working, but it's OK after drying out!

Me and George Washington

The web newspaper this morning has a story about finding George Washingtons childhood house. Me and George Washington go way back. We used to both used to hang out in the Great Dismal Swamp. George Washington owned it, a little before my time, but I aways went back there hiking, biking and kayaking. George Washington had ditches dug in the swamp to float lumber out, and when they dug these ditches, they put the dirt they removed right next to it, so it made a path that was up out of the swamp. When I was last there, a lot of these paths were good enough to drive a car on, others were good enough to ride a bike on, and still others were so grown over they were impassable. One in particular, called The Dismal Swamp Canal, was dug purely by slave labor. The canal when finished, was about two feet deep, and pretty worthless for boats, but that path next to it, became a very useful stage coach road through the otherwise impassable swamp. Today, that stage coach road is a four lane highway called US Route 17. A few years after it was 'completed' they dug the canal deeper, and later it became part of the Intra Coastal Waterway.
I have a house in the US that's very close to the north end of the Washington Ditch, in the north side of the swamp. My house is in Deep Creek, in Chesapeake Virginia. I heard the name Deep Creek was given by George Washington, but I can't prove it. Also I was told that the very last resistance of the US Civil War was very close to my house in Deep Creek, when the last of the last few rebel fighters ran off into the swamp, but again, I haven't tried verify it.
One of my old neighbors, (named after John Wayne) was real mad one day, because historians were on his property, digging little holes every few feet. It was kind of funny, because they weren't really hurting anything, just trespassing and digging little holes. They found Civil War era musket balls and belt buckles.
Also there is a railroad there, and there is a water tank and an old station from the steam train days. The yellow arrow on the pic below shows the old water tank. This tank is like from the 1800's.

Click all pics to enlarge.
Right now, there is a fire in the Great Dismal Swamp
I could talk all day about the Swamp.

First Visitors

I'm on vacation for the OI Girls Parents visit. I'm excited! They get here Monday! Our first visitors in the new house!

I just finished the third book of a trilogy, The Circle, by Ted Dekker. The first book was called Black, the second Red, and the third White. It's about this guy named Thomas who is living in two worlds. When he goes to sleep here, he wakes up there. When he goes to sleep there, he wakes up here. IT was really good, I couldn't put them down!

Shame Shame Shame

How about the American woman dying after spending over 24 hours in a hospital emergency room unattended?
That would never happen anywhere else in the world.
This is an embarrassment to the USA. Is this what democracy brings? Is this what Capitalism brings?
What do people in countries like Iraq and Iran think when they see this? Do you think this makes them want to be like the USA? NO! It makes USA's enemies fight harder. Incidents like this have lasting repercussions all around the world. The staff at this hospital will be responsible for more US troop death. The US tells their kids stories of 'dictators' in other countries killing people, the so called dictators countries tell their kids stories like this lady dying in the Emergency Room in the US.
The US should bring all those troops home and use them to get the US squared away. Put a few machine gun guys in that Emergency Room, to make sure they do their job! The US is just as bad as any third world country. worse in some ways.
This lady could not have died without even being looked at in any other country in the world. It could only happen in the Good ‘Ol USA.

Wall.E

We went and saw Wall.E last night, it was real good. It had strong serious messages about humans destroying the planet, obesity, and giant corporations taking over everything.
