Swimming Pays
the other day when I was swimming, I found a CI $1 bill and a good scuba mask, which I could really use, because I recently broke my spare. Today, I found a US $50!! Whoo Hooo!
We had these unsavory neighbors move in a couple of months ago. They got booted out I guess at the beginning of this month because they didn't pay the rent, but day before yesterday, the landlady went there to clean the apartment and the one guy was still there. The landlady told him he was already supposed to be out and he said he didn't know. The landlady said she told him, so he DID know. Yesterday I came home after work and the door was wide open, I went to the door, called "Hello!?", got no answer and called the landlady. She came over and the place was a wreck. Really bad. She called the police because of drug debris all over the place. I think everyone is glad they're gone. No more cars coming for a minute and leaving, No more freaky looking dudes hanging out in the bushes around the corner. No more cigarette packs and liquor bottles all over our yard! Goodbye Crackheads!
I've been swimming my two mile course almost everyday since I posted about it a week or so ago. Going by my time, I'm guessing my course is a little long, but that's OK, better than too short. Yesterday was a good swim, it felt like I swam half way before it came natural, and the second half went better than the first. I'm looking forward to my swim today. I think I figured out my two mile stroke!!
It was a great weekend. I went diving Saturday and Sunday (too deep for camera) and went to a beach party'/cookout yesterday afternoon. The OI Girl was saying this morning she's tireder now than she was Friday! (THat's a sign of a good weekend!)
The next swim is the two miler. Day before yesterday I swam two miles in an hour and sixteen minutes. I want to do it in under an hour. I'll be swimming a lot more than I have been in the past.
I noticed there is a somewhat new video upload button on the create post panel. I spent most of the morning trying to upload a video. It didn't work. I browsed to the video, then it just said wait while it's uploading forever.
I haven't seen a blogger video work yet, ones like you tube where you just paste the code to your blog work, but not a blogger one.
I guess it'll work in a while.
Had a good weekend, except I worked all morning yesterday, ruining the OI Girls picnic plans. We had a good beach afternoon though.
The bad news is that there weren't any trophies at the half mile sea swim today. The good news is that I came in first place in my age category. It would be nice to have my first first place swim trophy, but oh well. Tomorrow is the OI Girl and my two year anniversary. We're going to the beach.
Last night we went to bed early, short changing the dawg of his pre-bed walk. SOoooooo, he was hurtin' fer certain at about 4AM when he woke me up. I went outside and above was crystal clear, you couldn't see the constellations for all the stars! But over towards town was a practically continuous lightning storm. Lightning without thunder, a real light show. By the time I woke up, it was completely cloudy, and starting to rain. I saw the sun come up, go in between the horizon and the clouds, and I guess that's all we'll see of the sun today. A good day for working
This morning the sunrise was a one in a million fantastic sunrise. To the east was red, as the sun shone on the underside of some high, flat clouds, then there was a streak of the clearest, bluest blue, then covering about the other half of the sky were huge towering thunderheads, with lightning plainly visible and rumbling thunder. The lightning was shooting down across the face of the clouds, kind of like an avalanche. I ran inside and woke up the OI Girl and we watched it till it turned from red, to orange to yellow to white. Then the sun came up for just a minute before it went behind the clouds. Now it looks like it's going to be a rainy day.
OK, I've had this page open for over an hour, I drank my second pot of coffee, and I still can't think of anything to write about. I'll think of something in about 5 minutes, after I publish this. Isn't that the way it works?
I had a really good weekend, Saturday I got up early for a beach walk, then beach with the OI Girl. Sunday we went diving then to the beach again. Heres a couple of pics from the dive, a stream of fish and a lobster out for a stroll.
I was looking back at my Blog a year ago, I was waking up at 5, not 5:30, and the OI Girl was just moving here from the Other Island, Cayman Brac.
I feel like I've been neglecting my blog lately, I have been minimally posting, diving last week and working this week. and I haven't been visiting all my friends blogs. I think I'll be able to do better in the near future.
Lat night I made meat loaf. Pounda hamburger, onion, three eggs, (two'd be better) and seasoning. Mush it all together, plop it in a pan, and bake for an hour at 300 degrees. Identical to your meatball recipe, except that it's just one giant meatball.
I've been thinking agout my recent trip to my Grandfathers old farm. I remember where there were three huge oak trees, there was only one. Two were gone without a trace. My Grandmother always wanted to call the farm, "Three Oaks Farm". I remember when I was a little kid, there were those three oaks, also I remember there was a dead tree, way in the other direction, on the edge of a far field. It reminded me of the Statue of Liberty.
I was thinking back, before my time, when that tree was still alive, did my Grandfather remember it? Who was there when that tree was still alive? Who was there when that tree (and the other three) were little? My Grandfather was born in 1885, I wonder who he bought his farm from? I have a lot of questions I wish I'd asked when I was younger.
I've been thinking about the same things around here, on this island. I have asked some people who remember some old stuff, like the first car to drive up to West Bay, and when the road to East End was two tracks, one for each wagon wheel, instead of a paved road. Human history is very fragile. Easily forgotten.
Tek Week is over, everyone is gone and I'm still here, kinda sad because it's over. People who live here don't dive like the people who are here on vacation. It is great to be diving again and as far as the people who are going back home all I can say is 'Better them than me!!'
Above is a picture of me, taken by a very good photographer who was at Tek Week. Today I'm diving with the OI Girl, with a tank, not my rebreather and Monday I'm off, going back to work on Tuesday, where I will be very busy.
PS, Oh yeah, In a random drawing, I won a $500 dollar gift certificate for Inner Space, the dive event I always have attended anyway!
